The Kutná Hora train

The train is the classic way to Kutná Hora: 52 minutes from Prague's main station on the ČD R9, for 120 CZK with a PID ticket. The only tricky part is the last few kilometres, because the fast train stops in Sedlec and not in the old town.

Czech Railways (ČD) runs the trains, and since Kutná Hora is inside the Prague PID area, an ordinary PID ticket covers the trip. That makes it one of the cheapest day trips from the city.

This guide explains which train to take, what to buy, where to get off and how to come back. If you would rather skip all of it, the guided trip by train buys the tickets, reserves the seats and books the ossuary slot for you.

The quick answer

Take the ČD R9 from Praha hlavní nádraží, which leaves about every 1 to 2 hours and takes 52 minutes to Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží. A 10-zone PID ticket costs 120 CZK in the Lítačka app or 130 CZK on paper in 2026 and is valid for 3 hours, second class only on the R9. A local train meets most arrivals and runs to Sedlec and Kutná Hora město in 8 to 10 minutes. The last R9 back leaves at 9:03 PM.

How much is a train ticket from Prague to Kutná Hora?

120 CZK in the Lítačka app or 130 CZK on paper for a 10-zone PID ticket in 2026, valid for 3 hours.

The PID ticket is valid on the weekday R41 and, in second class only, on the fast R9. Buy it in the Lítačka app before you board and keep your phone charged; on paper, buy it from a machine or the counter. ČD also sells its own tickets in the Můj vlak app, and the cheapest of those are tied to one specific train.

No seat reservation is needed on the R9, the R41 or the local train. The guided trip by train includes the return tickets with seats reserved, which helps on busy summer mornings.

Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží or město: where should you get off?

Get off at hlavní nádraží for the ossuary, and take the local train on to Kutná Hora město for the old town.

The main station is about 1 km from the ossuary, roughly 15 minutes on foot, and about 3 km from St Barbara. The local train leaves at five past the hour, timed to meet the R9 that arrives at 56 minutes past. It stops at Sedlec, the stop for the ossuary, then reaches Kutná Hora město, close to the centre, in 8 to 10 minutes.

A good order for the day is the ossuary first, then the Sedlec Cathedral, then the local train or the bus up to town.

Skip the connections: the train, the local bus and both entries are booked for you, with a guide all day.

Is the train or a tour better for Kutná Hora?

The train is cheaper. A tour is easier, because it handles the timed ossuary slot and the 3 km between the sights.

On your own, the fare is low but the day has moving parts: the PID ticket, the local train, the ossuary ticket bought ahead for a fixed time, then the bus or the walk to St Barbara. Miss the slot by more than 10 minutes and the parish cannot guarantee entry.

The Sandemans trip by train is the same train with all of that handled. It is rated 4.6 from 2,597 reviews, meets in front of the ticket office at Prague Main Station, and stops for lunch at Restaurace Dačický, where a meal and a drink cost 15 to 20 EUR at your own expense. The afternoon goes to Hrádek.

Can you visit Kutná Hora by train with an Interrail pass?

Yes. The Interrail pass covers ČD trains, and the R9, the R41 and the local train need no reservation.

Activate the travel day in the Rail Planner app before you board, or write it on a paper pass. The pass does not cover the town bus, and it does not cover the ossuary or St Barbara, which you book separately.
