Kutná Hora, St Barbara and the Bone Church

About this experience

This is the all-in version of the Na Příkopě day. The listing includes a guide, entrance to the Sedlec Ossuary and entrance to St Barbara's Cathedral, plus a ticket to the Kingdom of Railways in Prague for any time after the tour. The Sedlec parish sells ossuary entry in timed slots, 220 CZK per adult in 2026, and says plainly that entry cannot be guaranteed without a reservation. A visit to the lower chapel, the ossuary itself, lasts at most 30 minutes. St Barbara's Cathedral charges 180 CZK per adult in 2026, 140 CZK reduced and 60 CZK for children from 6. The tour cancels free up to 24 hours before. Official ossuary tickets refund only up to 3 days before, and only as a voucher.

In the ossuary the guide points out the chandelier and the Schwarzenberg coat of arms in bone. The lower chapel holds the bones of between 40,000 and 70,000 people, arranged by the woodcarver František Rint in 1870 into four pyramids, garlands, the Schwarzenberg coat of arms and a chandelier said to use every bone in the human body. In town you tour St Barbara's and pass Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque townhouses and a stone fountain from the 15th century, with free time to explore on your own. One guest heard the guide sing in the Corpus Christi Chapel to show off its acoustics.

The listing has 4.2 stars from 187 reviews, with 4.7 for transport and 4.5 for the guide. Guests name Daniel and Stepan. The tour can be bilingual, groups run up to 27, and it is not suitable for wheelchair users. One guest says time at each stop is short, which suits people who like a brisk pace. Hotel pickup and lunch are not included.

The trip was very good. Of course the Sedlec Ossuary was the highlight [...] but the other sites were very beautiful and interesting too. [...] the highlight of the trip was our guide. He was very knowledgeable about the history, good humor, and a surprisingly great singing voice that we got to hear when he gave an impromptu demonstration of the acoustics in the Corpus Cristi Chapel. Beautiful!!

Tips before you book

  • Eat breakfast first. Lunch is not included, and the free time is the main chance to eat.
  • Move with the guide at each stop. Guests say time at each site is short.
  • Leave photos for outside the ossuary. Photography inside the ossuary has been banned since January 2024. The parish calls it a resting place for thousands of people and a functioning sacred space.
  • Plan the rest of your time in town with our things to do in Kutná Hora guide.
