Kutná Hora by Coach: Bone Church and St Barbara

About this experience

This is the best-value way to see both of Kutná Hora's headline sights with a guide. The listing includes an air-conditioned bus, a guide, and entry to the Sedlec Ossuary and St Barbara's Church. The Sedlec parish sells ossuary entry in timed slots, 220 CZK per adult in 2026, and says plainly that entry cannot be guaranteed without a reservation. A visit to the lower chapel, the ossuary itself, lasts at most 30 minutes. St Barbara's Cathedral charges 180 CZK per adult in 2026, 140 CZK reduced and 60 CZK for children from 6. With both tickets in a $65 price, the operator holds your ossuary slot and you walk in with the group. The tour cancels free up to 24 hours before. Official ossuary tickets refund only up to 3 days before, and only as a voucher.

The day has two halves. At Sedlec the guide tells the story of the bone chapel before you go in. The lower chapel holds the bones of between 40,000 and 70,000 people, arranged by the woodcarver František Rint in 1870 into four pyramids, garlands, the Schwarzenberg coat of arms and a chandelier said to use every bone in the human body. Then the coach moves on to St Barbara's, the church of the miners, for its Gothic vault and frescoes, and the group walks through the historic streets of the old silver town. The entry to the Italian Court, the royal mint, is not included.

The listing has 4.4 stars from 960 reviews, with 4.5 for the guide and for transport. Guests name Helen, Vincent and Viktor. Groups run up to 28, you need a passport or ID card, and the tour is not suitable for wheelchair users. One guest advises taking snacks, since there is little time to stop for food, and some coins for the paid toilets.

What guests say

★★★★★

This was a very nice day trip from Prague. It's a nice, easy town for walking, the sights [...] are well worth visiting. The guide did a very nice job explaining what we were seeing, why, the history, etc., as well as a few interesting tidbits about Prague itself. All in all, a nice afternoon [...] interesting, rewarding, and unhurried.

Vincent was very knowledgeable about the country’s and region’s history, and he had good recommendations for where to eat etc during our free time. I loved the cathedrals and the ossuary was spectacular. The transportation to and from was very convenient and comfortable. Highly recommend!

Tips before you book

  • Bring your passport or ID card. The listing asks for it.
  • Pack a snack and some coins. Guests say food stops are short and the toilets in town charge a small fee.
  • Keep your phone away in the ossuary. Photography inside the ossuary has been banned since January 2024. The parish calls it a resting place for thousands of people and a functioning sacred space.
  • Want more of the town? Our things to do in Kutná Hora guide covers the Italian Court and Hrádek.
